Assistant editor

From 2021 to 2023, I was the assistant editor of Down East Magazine, the magazine of Maine, which has more than 60,000 monthly subscribers and nearly 350,000 monthly readers. During my tenure, we were named magazine of the year by the International Regional Magazine Association. In my role, I was responsible for assigning, editing, and writing stories for the “Good Things From Maine” section (about Maine makers and artisans), writing monthly front-of-book columns, pitching in on collaborative feature stories, organizing and responding to all pitches and unsolicited manuscripts, and editing/fact checking all other sections of the magazine. My role made me an expert in copy editing, tracking and making changes in online documents, and mastering organization while juggling multiple projects at once. I also attended and pitched ideas in editorial meetings, fact checked and edited the work of freelancers, met tight deadlines, and worked closely with the branded content editor to create custom and sponsored content for businesses in Maine.

Winter People

In 2023, I pitched an idea for a feature that highlighted athletes in Maine who thrive in cold weather. The package included five stories about athletes, clubs, and nonprofits in the world of cold-weather sports in Maine.
